Nutrients can be a very important step in the cloning process! Nutrients are meant to act as an aid for root growth resulting in better overall plant health. There are many kinds of nutrients available for purchase. Rooting gel is the most commonly used form of nutrients, rooting gel consists of a water-based solution, with added hormones, that cling to the cut tissue and repair damage... all while promoting healthy root growth. Root gel also acts as an antifungal to protect the plant from infection. (Please note the dosage instructions as they are different for every company. If used incorrectly, too much added nutrients can have an adverse effect.)
Like humans, plants contain a mixture of hormones that work together to regulate basic functions. There are five primary plant hormones: Auxins, Cytokinin, Gibberellins, Abscisic Acid, and Ethylene. Auxin is the hormone primarily responsible for supporting root growth. Many root gels provide essential vitamins, such as B1, which helps prevent transplant shock. Natural acids are also present in most rooting gels, giving the stem an even bigger boost. Overall, when adding nutrients to your clones, you are providing essential compounds that allow the clone to root quicker, safer, and healthier. Nutrients can be an added benefit to your cloning experience! But remember although extremely helpful, clones can still be successful without added nutrients or hormones.
